CVHRDC CALL FOR CAPSULE HEALTH RESEARCH PROPOSALS

 

I.        Eligible entities:

     Regular staff and faculty members of the Cagayan Valley Health Research and Development Consortium (CVHRDC) member institutes, medical and paramedical schools, hospitals and other health related agencies in Region II actively involved in health-related activities.

 

 

II.      Proposals must be related to the PCHRD-DOST Health Research Agenda and Priority Areas:

 

1.        Drug Discovery and Development:

Discovery of new drugs from natural substances (herbal and marine/terrestrial sources) which can be developed up to the pre-clinical stage for common infectious diseases and lifestyle-related disorders.

 

2.        Development of Diagnostic kits for Priority Diseases:

Development of diagnostic tests (point of care and confirmatory) for priority infectious and lifestyle-related diseases for the early detection and/or prediction of disease and mortality, utilizing existing technologies that are off-patent or lapsed technology and/or novel technology.

(dengue and dengue-like illnesses; MDR/XTR TB; drug-resistant malaria; influenza-like illnesses leptospirosis; sepsis; myocardial infarction; colorectal cancer; stroke, diabetes mellitus; and breast cancers )

 

3.        Genomic and Molecular Technology:

Use of information in the human genome in the design of vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostic devices or products.

(e.g. biomarkers for early detection of diseases and target markers for treatment; personalized medicine; adult stem cells; biologics)

 

4.        ICT for Health:

Development of user-friendly ICT solutions to accelerate the gathering and processing of health-related information for policy making and to deliver quality health care services.

(e.g. Public health surveillance/health intelligence systems; telehealth services and systems; interface for ICT-enabled devices)

 

5.        Hospital Equipment and Biomedical Devices:

Development of affordable, safe and reliable hospital equipment and biomedical devices.

(e.g. ventilator/respirator; prosthesis; minimally-invasive surgery and rehabilitation equipment and e=instruments using optics and robotics)

 

III.   Capsule proposal format:

 

1.        Project Information:

i.        Project Title

ii.     Brief summary of research experiences and accomplishments of project leader and researchers that qualifies them to undertake the research work (without identifying the specific persons who will undertake the project so RMC/ERC can do a blind evaluation).

 

2.       Significance of the Proposal

Describe the project rationale and significance of the proposed project to the current health-related needs of the country.

 

3.        Project Objectives

Statement of the specific purpose to be addressed by the project on the problem areas identified.

 

4.        Brief Methodology

Approach on how the associated work products, processes, information and services will be implemented, developed and acquired.

IV.   E-Submission of capsule proposals:

 

Proposals must be submitted to the Cagayan Valley Health Research and Development Consortium (CVHRDC) Secretariat via electronic mail. Eligible entities whose proposals have been evaluated will be notified accordingly regarding the results of the evaluation.

 

If the proposal will be found eligible, the proponent will then be asked to develop the full-blown proposal (together with the duly accomplished Ethics Protocol) for joint RMC/ERC review.

1.    E-Submission of capsule proposals

Up to October 17, 2014

Submit to CVHRDC Secretariat thru:This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . Proposals will be forwarded to RMC members who will conduct the review.

2.    Preliminary review and evaluation

Within 10 working days after the receipt of the proposal

Assigned evaluators from the Research Management Committee (RMC) will conduct review and prepare evaluation report.

3.    Notification of proponents

Within 2 working days after the results of the review become available

Proponents will be informed whether their proposals passed the preliminary screening or not. Qualified researches will be developed into full-blown proposals using appropriate proposals format depending on what funding agency be endorsed. A letter of intent from the head of the institution shall be attached to the proposal upon submission.

4.    Joint RMC/ERC evaluation of full-blown research proposals (for projects found eligible during preliminary screening)

Within 1 month after submission

The RMC and ERC will jointly review the full-blown proposal. Proponents will be provided with a copy of the evaluation report as a guide in revising the proposal.

5.    Endorsement of Qualified Proposals to Funding Institutions

Within 1 week after the submission of revised proposal and other related documents

The CVHRDC Chairperson shall endorse proposals that have passed the criteria for evaluation.

 

 

ABOUT HERDIN?

Health Research and Development Information Network (HERDIN) database is the national health research repository of the Philippines.

HERDIN database provides quick and easy access to more than 50,000 citation and bibliographic information from published (Philippine health reesearch journals , conference/convention proceedings, International databases and publications) and unpublished (research institutions research projects and reports, thesis and dissertations) health reseraches in the country.

Citations may include links to full-text content from publisher web sites or downlodable at HERDIN.

 

HERDIN RESEARCH DATABASE AWARD:

This contest is open to all institutions generating health researches.

 

Content:

Health-related researches undertaken by the institution. Materials can include theses, dissertations, research reports, research projects, journal articles, proceedings, laws, book of abstracts and books.

 

Quality of data entry:

Each record uploaded must comply with the HERDIN NeON database standards

 

Database usage:

Information on the database availability must be disseminated and used by the institution and its networks. A user statistics must be verifiable.

 

Judging:

A board of judges will evaluate the database on July 2014.

 

Awarding:

The winner/s for the research database award will be announced during the 8th PNHRS week celebration in Cebu City.

Prizes:

* Cash award of Php 50,000 which can be used in improving the institutional database content

* Travel grant for three persons to the 8th Philippine National Health Research System Week in Cebu City in August 2014.

 

Criteria for Judging

Inclusion criteria

* Institution willing to organize and share health research outputs

* Institution using HERDIN-NEON system template

 

Database content (40%)

* Researches must be health related done in, or about, the Philippines or authored by a Filipino

* At least 100 researches undertaken by the institution, subject to quality check

* HERDIN NeON system compliant

* Access to full-text articles e.g link, downloadable, print or document delivery service etc.

 

Database updated regularly (20%)

* Institution must update content as evidenced by monthly uploading of new records

 

Database usage (40%)

* Information on the database availability is disseminated in the organization

* Institution and its networks use the database as evidenced by user statistics
