Instilled with the dedication to improve health research in the region, the Cagayan Valley Health Research and Development Consortium (CVHRDC) under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 02 successfully conducted its 2-day Training on Qualitative and Mixed Methods Research on August 23-24, 2023 at Las Palmas de San Jose, Bagay, Tuguegarao City.
The participants were challenged by Dr. Ferdinand G. Bulusan, a sought-after Director for Instruction from Batanes State Colleges (BSU), and Dr. Ruth N. Maguddayao, another distinguished academician from Cagayan State University (CSU), to improve as a researcher and outdo their best.
Meanwhile, one of the highlights of the training was the collaborative environment it fostered. Attendees, hailing from various disciplines and research backgrounds, had the chance to share insights, discuss challenges, and learn from each other's experiences. This exchange of ideas not only broadened horizons but also served as a reminder of the interdisciplinary nature of research.
Research is a journey of discovery, a process that seeks to uncover truths and shed light on the unknown. While quantitative research provides valuable statistical data, qualitative and mixed methods research offers a complementary perspective by exploring the human experiences, motivations, and contexts that quantitative data might miss.
A total of forty participants from various State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), private Higher Education Institutes (HEIs), and medical centers in the valley took part in the said workshop.
